Terms of Use

Effective 16 October 2026 · Last updated 16 October 2026

The short version

  • Your notes and recordings are yours. We never receive them.
  • You must tell people when you record them and follow recording laws where you are.
  • Transcripts can contain mistakes. Check anything important.
  • Keep backups and your recovery key. We can’t recover lost data.
  • Purchases go through Google Play, and Google Play’s refund rules apply.

1. Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Aavya Dev, India (“we”, “us”), the publisher of the gaanote app (“the app”) and the website gaanote.com. By installing or using the app or the website, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use them.

2. Who can use gaanote

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, or have a parent or guardian’s permission. In India, users under 18 need a parent or guardian’s permission. gaanote is not intended for children under 13.

3. Your licence

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on Android devices you own or control, under these terms and the Google Play Terms of Service.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell or rent the app, or reverse engineer it or extract its models, except where the law allows this despite these terms.

4. Your content

Everything you record or write in gaanote, including audio, transcripts, notes and the voiceprints made from them (“your content”), belongs to you or to the people who own it. Your content is stored on your phone, and we never receive it, so we claim no rights to it.

You are responsible for your content and for what you share or export from the app.

5. Recording other people

Laws about recording conversations and storing voice data differ between countries and, in the US, between states. Some places require everyone in a conversation to agree to being recorded. Some regulate voiceprints as biometric information.

By using gaanote, you agree to:

gaanote always shows when it is recording. You must not try to hide or disable that indicator.

6. Acceptable use

You must not use gaanote to:

7. Free use and purchases

8. Accuracy

gaanote uses speech recognition, speaker recognition and other models that run on your phone. They can make mistakes. Words can be misheard, speakers can be mixed up, and summaries can leave things out.

Don’t rely on gaanote as the only record of anything important, such as medical, legal, financial or safety information, without checking it against the original audio. Reminders depend on your phone’s settings, and Android may delay or block them, so don’t use them for anything critical.

9. Backups and data loss

Your data is encrypted and stored only on your phone and in backups you make. We can’t see it, so we can’t restore it. If you lose both your phone and your recovery key, or your backups, your data can’t be recovered by anyone, including us.

You are responsible for keeping backups and your recovery key safe.

10. Updates and availability

We may release updates that add, change or remove features. Updates come through Google Play. We will try to keep the features you paid for working, but we don’t promise that the app will work on every device, always be available, or be free of errors.

If we ever stop offering gaanote, the copy on your phone will keep working as it is, and you will still be able to export your data.

11. Our intellectual property

The app, its models, its design, the gaanote name and logo, and this website belong to Aavya Dev or our licensors and are protected by law. These terms do not give you any rights to them except the licence in section 3. Open-source components in the app are licensed under their own licences, which are listed in the app.

12. Third-party services

gaanote relies on Google Play to deliver the app and handle purchases. You may also share or export to other apps. Those services are run by others under their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them.

13. Disclaimer

As far as the law allows, gaanote and this website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. This includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.

Some places don’t allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.

14. Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages. This includes lost data, lost profits or loss of goodwill, arising from your use of gaanote or the website.

Our total liability for any claim relating to gaanote is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for fraud.

15. Indemnity

You agree to compensate us for claims, losses and costs, including reasonable legal fees, that arise from your breach of these terms. This includes recording or storing anyone’s voice in a way that breaks the law.

16. Ending these terms

You can stop using gaanote at any time by uninstalling it. We may end your licence if you seriously break these terms. When these terms end, you must stop using the app.

Sections 4, 9, and 11 to 17 continue to apply after these terms end.

17. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts of India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer, you keep any rights and protections given to you by the mandatory laws of the country where you live, including the right to bring claims in your local courts.

18. Changes

We may update these terms. We will post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app. If you keep using gaanote after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms.
